Hemangiosarcoma is a tumor that forms in the blood vessels and heart. It’s a cancerous growth, meaning it will grow and spread to other parts of your dog’s body if left untreated. You may have heard of hemangiosarcoma being referred to as “HSA,” which stands for hemangiosarcoma of the spleen.
There are many different types of hemangiosarcoma, but they’re all treated in much the same way. The type of hemangiosarcoma your dog has will determine how long it takes for their symptoms to appear, but once they start showing signs, it’s important that you get them to a vet quickly so they can begin treatment.
Beginning Signs of Hemangiosarcoma in Dogs
The signs of hemangiosarcoma are often vague at first, but as the cancer grows, it will cause symptoms like:
- Vomiting
- Lack of appetite
- Abdominal pain or discomfort (the tumor may press on internal organs)
- Bloody urine or stool
