Cytology

Cytology is a branch of biology that deals with the study of cells. It focuses on their structure, function, and various components and organelles.

In order to study a cell, it must first be prepared by being fixed in a buffered solution or embedded in an appropriate medium. The cells can then be stained using dyes that highlight certain features of a cell’s structure or functions.

After staining, they are examined under a microscope to identify various features of the cell’s structure, including its nucleus and cytoplasmic organelles such as ribosomes.
